For this tour we have combined the perfect mix of habitats to ensure the maximum diversity and number of bird species. We will visit the high mountain areas of the Serranía de Ronda and Sierra de Grazalema, both scenically beautiful, where special birds such as Bonelli’s Eagle and Griffon Vulture have their European strongholds. Here we might also observe Long-legged Buzzard, a recent addition to the breeding bird list of Spain. Local birds that add to the attraction here are Black Wheatear, Blue Rock Thrush, Rock Bunting and many others!
Venturing down from the high mountains we will arrive at the famous Strait of Gibraltar, Special CommentIt goes without saying that all our accommodation is of the usual very high standard as all Worldwide Birding Tours. This tour is relaxed and recommended if comfort and easy pace is required. probably one of the finest regions in Europe for observing autumn migration of raptors (and other birds) as they pass over the short sea crossing to Africa. The migration of birds across the Strait of Gibraltar is one of life’s wonders and a pure spectacle everyone should witness at least once in their lifetime. Whilst here we hope to find some elusive species such as Little and White-rumped Swift, with Rüppell's Vulture also a possibility.Of course, no visit to this area of the Iberian Peninsula would be complete without visiting the renowned wetlands of the Doñana. The national park of the Doñana comprises of a combination of ecosystems including Mediterranean scrub, marshlands and mobile dunes with their beaches, a diversity that produces a wide range of bird species. Waterbirds obviously figure highly on our list of target birds, but Spanish Imperial Eagle is resident here and Montagu’s Harrier passes through in large numbers during the tour dates.

A small group of us set out from Montejaque in the morning on our journey to the Doñana, amongst the finest wetlands in the Iberian Peninsula. Our visit was intended to take in scenery as much as birds, with of course food and comfort high on our agenda! Our accommodation for the 2 nights was the splendid Hotel Toruño set in the unique and bizarre pueblo of El Rocío. Our journey, via the Sevilla circumnavigation motorway
