Impressions of The Gambia

egyptian-ploverA very special holiday! Why? Spanish Nature is run by folk who are family orientated and wanted to design a special break for those seeking to relax after the rigours of Christmas. January can be a real anti-climax after the excitement of family celebrations and escaping mid-winter is also an appealing idea. And so we have put together a tour, that not only offers great birding and wildlife opportunities, but also incorporates a unique view of the real Africa with a chance to spend days relaxing on boat rides and slumbering on the white sands of our beachside hotel. We believe it is a tour you will enjoy and at an affordable price. So why not join on this great opportunity to see Africa and relax with like-minded fellow travellers? Read on if you are interested to join us and for the details of this great holiday......

Special CommentIt goes without saying that all our accommodation is of the usual very high standard as all Worldwide Birding Tours. This tour is relaxed and recommended if comfort and easy pace is required.

red-troated-bee-eaterThe Gambia is one of the smallest and safest countries in Africa. After only a 6 hours flight without any time difference you will arrive at Banjul on the Gambian Coast, which is as colourfully African as can image. The Gambia enjoys virtually uninterrupted sunshine with almost no rainfall from November to June, which makes this country a very good place to escape the cold and grey winter months in northern Europe. Birdlife is abundant and since in 1977 a Wildlife Act was passed for several areas in The Gambia, Which are now protected Nature Reserves. More than 540 bird species are recorded.
During this trip we will spend half of the time in the Coastal Area and half of the time we will travel inland. Travelling inland is still an experience because of very poor roads and absence of good accommodation. We can’t avoid it all, but doing it our way we reduced inconvenience as much as possible.

Our daily schedule, adapted to the climatic conditions, will often look like this:
  • Mornings we go out birding in one of the many Nature Reserves. For those who want to, there will be time to relax after lunch. In the late afternoon we go out again for a birding walk.
  • For those who come to enjoy birding all day, our local guide will be happy to keep you company and to help you where necessary. At every place where we stay, there are good birding sites nearby.
  • The design of this tour is ideal for couples, of which perhaps only one is really interested in birds.
All our guests always have regular options, either join-in with the tour group birding and wildlife viewing or opt-out and enjoy your own company. You, the client, have choices unlike with so many other group tours!

Reserving your place is both easy and inexpensive. A deposit of € 250 is all we require! Book online...

Latest Trip Report The Gambia

black-crowned-night-heronReading this trip report it will be clear that a “Recce Trip” is different in all aspects. These trips are not like the normal Birding Tours, where everything is well organized and planned. We, and with us 5 fellow travellers, had to face unexpected circumstances, we had to change 3 times our hotel, and our planned daily schedule never turned out to be the best one. However the experience was great, not only for us, but also for our fellow travellers. The common question from our friends is “When do you have your next Recce Trip, and can we come along with you”, shows how the tour was experienced.

Meet your Tour Guides for The Gambia

guideOur guide is Mustapha Manneh. He is an official Bird Guides Association guide and has been working in the field for about six years. He has guided for several international Travel Agencies. His field tools are excellent and he is a very helpful with all identification problems. Our clients liked him very much because Mustapha turned out to be a very pleasant and well-informed young man, with a good sense of humour and a good grasp of the English humour.

Tour leader: Each tour will have a representative of Worldwide Birding Tours to accompany it, ensuring attention to detail and fulfilling our pledge not to send you on holiday, but to take you.
