Peru has more than 1800 species of birds and with this number is second of all countries in the world. Peru holds the record for most species (650) seen in one single place. We only can say you will not regret joining us on one of our future tours to this magnificent birding destination.
Special CommentIt goes without saying that all our accommodation is of the usual very high standard as all Worldwide Birding Tours. This tour is relaxed and recommended if comfort and easy pace is required.
Our tour will cover 3 completely different areas of Peru.
We will start in Northern Peru, flying from Lima to Tarapoto and travelling all the way back to Jaen, from where we fly back to Lima. This route is packed with endemics and restricted-range threatened species. Facilities are generally good and travel is easy. We will have a stop of some days in Moyobamba, going from there to the lodge at Abra Patricia which is a highlight of the route, along with the Marvelous Spatuletail reserve at Huembo where male Spatuletails can be seen at the feeders.
Before going on to the Amazon region we will stay a day in the Lima area. From here we will visit some interesting sites such as the Pucusana fishing port, having a boat-ride around the port, the Lomas de Asia Reserve, approximately 10,000 hectares of coastal hills covered by seasonal vegetation fed by the humidity of the marine fog and the Villa Marshes, located within the municipal limits of the city of Lima. This site is a coastal lagoon with brackish water and abundant emergent vegetation. The wetland is situated in the desert and the main source of water is of underground origin. It is a habitat for waterfowl typical of coastal Peru.
